05/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Magneto came to us by way of the NYPD as he was abandoned in the building that his owner’s used to live in. Magneto was can be seen in his kennel with slightly tense body language, but he is very receptive to accepting treats. He pulled very strongly on the slip lead during his relief walk, but was very interested in his surroundings and marking his areas. He was more interested in exploring the behavior room when entering and wasn’t very social toward the assessor. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items though maintaining tense and stiff body language during the assessment. He showed no signs of aggression during the entire evaluation. He was a bit uncomfortable as the assessor did the squeeze test. During the tag interaction he followed the assessor alert of the assessor’s position at all times but other than that he was distracted by items in the room. Magneto only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We recommend Magneto go to a home with an experienced adopter with no children due to his occasional discomfort with handling. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is low, body tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, confident body posture, alert to assessor’s position, distracted by surroundings. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, bit tense. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, bit tense. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. 5/25 update: Due to Magneto’s concerning behavior in the Care Center- snapping and lunging at staff- as well as the behavior that was reported by the NYPD, the Behavior Department does not feel that he is a candidate for the adoptions room.
