A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes: He may be named for a villain, but little Magneto is definitely one of the good guys! Neat, sweet and petite, he’s pretty enough to be a model, as gentle as can be with everyone he meets, and a smart cookie who’ll do just about anything for a treat. Happy to show off a perfect sit on command or even stand on his hind legs like a person, he’s always wonderfully affectionate and ready for snuggles, and has quickly established a name for himself as a star in playgroup, too, joyfully bouncing around with boys and girls alike. Magneto walks well on leash, seems to be house trained, greets passing dogs with gentle manners, and aced his behavior assessment like a pro. Now he’s ready to join almost any family as loving and active as he is. For tail-wagging good times and endless cuddles, Magneto is definitely the man. He’s waiting at our Manhattan Care Center and ready to be your hero today!

Details on my behavior are…

Date of assessment: 7-May-2018
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft.
Paw squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back.
Paw squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pull back.
Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away.
Summary: Magneto approached the assessor with a soft body and jumped up in a social manner. He was social throughout the assessment, allowed all handling, and displayed no concerning behaviors.
Playgroup notes:
5/6: When introduced off leash to the female helper dog, Magneto engages in bouts of bouncy play, at times with intent to mount.
5/7-8: Magneto engages in bouncy play with female dogs.
5/9: Magneto is soft and polite when greeting male and female dogs. He offers correction for overly exuberant play.
Date of intake: 5-May-2018
Summary: Magneto had a loose body and allowed handling.
Date of initial: 5-May-2018
Summary: Magneto was active, social, and allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Magneto so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
