07/08/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/08/17 13:05 During intake Magic was friendly with a loose body and a low slow wagging tail. He came up to the counselor for affection. He allowed the counselor to handle him and collar him. He was a little nervous when he initially came in and was salivating but walked in with ease. His tail was wagging the whole time. After some time, he approached the counselor and became more relaxed and was laying on the floor and let the counselor rub his belly. The policemen said Magic was well behaved in the car with them.
07/11/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The only trick Magic has up his paw is making you fall in love with him! And that will be easy! He’s an adorable, compact pup in a gorgeously groomed tan coat, an ear to ear smile, and a wagging tail. His first priority when we got outside was going potty, and then we’re off for a walk, Magic wagging his tail as we go. Off leash in a pen, Magic greets a fellow pup through the gate with a wagging tail, and in group, is tolerant and softens as he gets to know his playmate. We loved playing tug, and when I let Magic win our first round, he came back for more play. Some kisses and cuddles when joining me on the bench, a good butt scratch, and Magic couldn’t be happier. He’s a terrific, easy and sweet little guy who rocked his behavior assessment and is hoping to add a little Magic to your life.
07/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 7/8/17 Neutered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 7/9/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Jumps on assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Magic displayed no concerning behaviors on his assessment and was social theoughout. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: Magic has not appeared completely comfortable interacting with dogs in the care center. He has shown brief interest in approaching to greet calm dogs. The behavior department recommends slow, one on one introductions between Magic and respectful dogs at this time. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake, Magic was social and had a loose body. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/8/17 During his initial medical exam, Magic allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Magic so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
