05/25/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Maggie’s little tongue peeks out of her mouth when she’s sleeping — she is a little mama and is unbearably cute! She’s very wiggly when I approach her cage, however she proves to be a little more shy when there are no bars between us. But for every part Maggie is shy, she is ten parts sweet! She walks perfectly on leash and seems housebroken. When we’ve met other dogs through a fence she seems interested and wiggles her tail. After some time she lays down at my feet and periodically looks up at me with soft eyes. If I join her on the ground she’ll smoosh her face on my knee when I pet her and give me little kisses on my nose! I have a feeling Maggie will make the best sidekick ever…she’d love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
05/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Maggie came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Maggie was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Maggie had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Maggie was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment Maggie was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Maggie appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands, a bit fearful. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is a downward position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, smells ,then turns away. Dog-Dog: Maggie was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Maggie greets nervously with a tucked tail, exchanges sniffs with the greeter dog and then wander in the pen.
