03/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Madison quickly taps her front paws and twirls around when we meet at her cage door. She is a dancing greeter, and always a doll! She has some skin issues, but is still as cute as can be with her gentle eyes, white lashes, and cheeky black spot. She has previously lived harmoniously with a 3 year old child and another female dog and is reported to be housebroken (she seems it). She is very easy on leash, attentive, and incredibly sweet! She is so wiggly and eager to connect with people. She’ll ever-so-softly prop her paws on me to solicit petting, and when I stop she’ll stretch up just a little taller and shoot me a look that makes me want to just pick her up. She is really a catch, come scoop her up at Brooklyn ACC!
03/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Madison previously lived with2 adults, another pit-bull and a 3 year old child. The owner stated Madison is friendly and plays gentle with the adults and tolerant of the child in the household. The owner mentioned Madison is relaxed and playful towards the other dog in the household. It was reported by the owner Madison is house trained and has a high activity level. The owner describes Madison as mellow and affectionate. At intake it was reported Madison was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Madison came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Madison was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Madison was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Madison appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Madison initially avoids greeting the helper dog at the gate but eventually approaches with a soft body. She exchanges a sniff, then enters the pen and explores the yard.
03/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Madison initially avoids greeting the helper dog at the gate but eventually approaches with a soft body. She exchanges a sniff, then enters the pen and explores the yard. It appears that Madison does not have much interest in engaging with other dogs but prefers to be in the company of humans. Due to her behavior in playgroup, the Behavior Department feels that Madison would be most suited to living in a home with no other dogs. 3/15 update: Madison approaches and greets with raised hacklles but a loose posture. She does not engage in any play and corrects the other dog for soliciting play.
