A volunteer writes: There was no way I was going to ignore Macy….No way…That face..Those eyes, like two burning candles..That upturned nose…Mine…..To get what I wanted was not that easy..Macy was scared. She looked fine, sitting right behind her door, did not back off as I approached and kneeled down to her level. Once I open her den, Macy immediately retreated to the back of her kennel, plastered her head to the wall while keeping it down..It took lots of juggling to lasso her, some pulling to get her out..Eventually, we made it to the yard. She pulled quite a bit. We sat on a bench . She accepted petting without flinching and I felt her body relax. We walked some more. Her pace had slowed dow. She was ready to be leash free in a pen. I did not push my luck, did not use accessories to embellish her natural beauty and just focused on making friends and getting decent pictures of a gorgeous gal…Indeed, Macy is beautiful, a bit too thin but well dressed and well groomed. She did not want my treats but was very interested in my ciabatta that we shared. We bonded over bread….It did not take much. Macy now came as I called her, sat on command and was quite happy to be petted. She even put a smile on her face….Macy needs some time, though to feel more comfortable. Walks with staff and volunteers will do the job…Playgroups with her peers might help too. Macy, gotten as a tiny puppy, was relinquished into our care as her family moved to a place not allowing pets. She comes with excellent comments. She lived in harmony with children and is known to be initially shy with strangers and other pooches. She would be housetrained, free of handling issues, knows a number of commands and speak Spanish. I fell in love with Macy. You might too…Come and meet her here at the Manhattan Care Center. I know she will open her heart when she recognizes true love… See this gorgeous girl in a video by copy-pasting this link to your browser bar– https://youtu.be/3jVTJFV-crk https://youtu.be/fuR0fez7EHc
04/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Macy came in 4-19-16 to our care center as owner surrender. She was fearful the first day and the behavior team decided to give her more time to do her assessment But Macy behavior became progressively worse. She was difficult to remove from her kennel she is very fearful in the back of the kennel showing teeth, low growling, and tucked tail. In the care center Macy walk with a fearful body language and becomes very frightened of the loud noises she would pull harder trying to escape or would lower her body to the ground. Macy is under either social or environmental stress. When the behavior assessor tries to positioned her she quick air snapped at the assessor and tries to escape. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Macy was not interested in toys. She does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. According to her previous owner Macy is friendly and shy with a medium activity level. Her favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. Around strangers Macy is shy for a few minutes but is friendly once he gets to know you. Macy has lived with 3 children between the ages of 3 months and 17 years old, but she is relaxed and playful around the children. The owner stats that Macy is not bothered when some moves her food or treats while she is eating, when someone takes her toys away”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Macy is soft-bodied, offers a wag, but becomes uncomfortable when solicited. Helper:A1070072
04/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

When off leash with other dogs, Macy is soft-bodied, offers a wag, but becomes uncomfortable when solicited. Her owner reports that when an unfamiliar animal approaches a family member or his home she approaches stiff them and hide behind the owner. Another volunteer writes: So beautiful, clearly shy as we were advised by her former family, Macy takes a while to get comfortable. She loves treats and sits for them, and that’s one of the ways to her heart. She lived well with children ages 3 mos-17yo, doesn’t guard her things, is housetrained when walked regularly and was a well taken care of family companion. She’s feeling her separation so we go slow and let her decide when she’s ready. Macy does seek out the comfort of the person she’s with, a wonderful sign that she’s ready to be friends. Macy is looking for a new family to take care of and with the comfort of a home, and the love and understanding of her new person she will open up and become one with her family. She’s a gorgeous girl looking forward to her happily ever after.
