Lyric
Hello, my name is Lyric. My animal id is #17560. I am a desexed female brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 03-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- landlord won’t allow (nycha).
Lyric is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex which is contagious to other dogs. Lyric will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. Lyric should be placed in an experienced dog family with no young children due to reportedly growling when food is touched from previous owner.
Lyric is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, due to observed levels of anxiousness, and reported food guarding behavior, we suggest Lyric would be best suited to a dog experienced home. Lyric is reported by her previous owner to have had accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Sweet marble cake, exotic wood, or wild Tiger of Bengal? Lyric is beautiful in her well groomed shiny striped coat, sitting straight like an I right behind her door. Although her former owner says that she runs away from strangers, Lyric accepts easily my leash, a scarf and a coat, as well as a caress on her head. She pulls quite a bit during our stroll and does her business in the street. She is excited seeing other dogs, and clearly would like to meet them. Our playgroups with her peers are definitely to her liking. Lyric will sit once for a treat. She would rather jump for it and wag her tail like an innocent child when she is scolded. She is so smart. I bet that for love, she would roll on her back. Lyric has lived happily with young children and even allowed them to pull her ears (an absolute no no). Although she has never mingled with dogs before, we discovered that she seems to like them very much. Lyric would love to be your friend, discover a new world with you, and build together wonderful memories. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to her previous owner reporting that Lyric growls when her food bowl is touched, we recommend a home without young children. Older children who can be trusted to leave Lyric alone while eating can be considered.
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Resource guarding,Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Lyric is noted to have accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Resource guarding: Lyric’s previous owner notes that she may growl when his food bowl is touched. We recommend that Lyric be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Lyric’s mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. She should be taught the “drop” cue and trade-up games. Fearful: Lyric’s previous owner reported that she barks at and avoids new people. This behavior was also seen at intake. It is important to always go slow and give Lyric the option to walk away from any social interaction. Lyric should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Lyric’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Lyric would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Lyric’s previous owner reported that she barks at new people. This behavior was also seen at intake. Lyric may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
