SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Luna came into the shelter as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. According the neighbor Luna was abandoned by her owner, 3-4 weeks ago. The neighbor also mentioned she has been taking care of the dog since then. Luna is described as a passive, friendly dog. Luna was accustomed to living outdoors according to the neighbor.
Behavior during intake: Luna allowed all handling.
During SAFER Luna came into the assessment room calm and relaxed she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Luna was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Luna was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Luna appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all.
Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Playgroup:When off leash at the Care Center, Luna approaches the gate with a loose body. Once in the pen she engages with the other dog socially but due to her lameness she is unable to reciprocate play posturing. She is tolerant however of the younger dog’s solicitations and follows him around the yard.
