07/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Rubenesque, well fed with love…..Luna is dressed in a shining black and white coat, and when I passed her kennel she looked up at me expectantly as if wishing it could be her turn next. She looked so sweet, and so in need of a new friend, I made it her turn. We make a beeline for the door so she can go potty, whew!, and then we’re off for a gentle stroll. Surrendered by her family due to NYCHA restrictions, it’s clear that Luna was a beloved family companion and she looks for them as we walk. Off leash in the yard Luna explores, coming back to me from time to time to check in. When other dogs approach our pen Luna greets them gently, an easy wave of her tail and a soft body. Luna is looking for a new family to love and take care of, a family with whom she can spend her golden years snuggled close. Won’t you come meet her today?

07/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Luna arrived into our care as an owner surrender who cites “Owners say he is very reactive when hearing and seeing dogs outside, she’ll attempt to lunge at them.” While in our care, on-leash reactivity has not been observed, and Luna has shown to greet politely and engage in play with other dogs in an off-leash setting. The behaviors described by Luna’s previous owner were on-leash, so it is unknown how any of Luna’s behavior with dogs will translate into a home environment. The behavior team feels that a home with other dogs may be considered, however a pre-adoption interaction and slow, positive introductions are highly encouraged. She may be most comfortable with another polite, social dog. 7/5: When off leash with other dogs, Luna is a bit unsure at first with hackles raised, but does only greet and sniff. 7/7: Luna allows approach, otherwise ignores. 7/8 update: Luna greets politely then explores the pen. After some time in the yard she begins to offer bows and paw slaps to solicit play. She does not offer correction if mounted. 7/9 update: Luna engages in bouncy play with males and females. She will offer correction when mounted. 7/10: Luna greets politely and engages in soft play. She offers correction for mounting. 7/11: Luna engages in bouts of play with other playful dogs. She offers correction for mounting. 7/12: Luna continues to display this behavior.
