02/11/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/11/16 Luna is a 4 year old Sharpei/ACD mix. Her family got her from a pet store when she was a puppy and surrendered her because she bites people. Luna gets ear infections. If she jumps/stands on her rear limbs a lot, her hips get sore. Luna is friendly w/ some strangers, but barks at others (e.g. the super, her owner’s brother, the children’s tutor). She doesn’t seem to prefer either men or women. Usually, she’s either outgoing/friendly w/ a new person from the moment she meets them, or barks at them and never becomes used to them. An exception is her owner’s sister who gave her treats until she became friendly with her. Luna lived w/ 2 children, currently 12 and 16. She’s usually relaxed and playful w/ them, but guards resources from all people, including them. She retreats and tries to quietly run away when dogs approach her outside. She lived w/ a cat whom her family got as a kitten 1.5 years ago and was relaxed, playful, affectionate, and tolerant him. Luna has bit her family members, while guarding resources, only breaking skin once 1.5 years ago. Luna guards dog food/treats/bones/toys and objects that she steals. When someone approaches/walks by her with these items, she growls. She has nipped/bit her owner’s forearms when they reach for these, but never broke skin. She bit one of the children’s faces when he grabbed and kissed her face while she waited for bread from her owner. This was the only bite that broke skin. Luna’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, smart, and medium energy. She follows the adult male in her family everywhere and he describes her as a one-person dog. She likes balls, stuffed toys, and rope toys. She plats chase and tug (when she brings her toy to her owner to play). She lived inside and slept on a dog bed. She ate mostly dry food with some wet food. She got meat as a treat. She is housetrained and potties outside on grass. She never had accidents until recently, when her regular walks stopped and her family began containing her in the kitchen with a baby gate (to avoid resource guarding caused confrontations). Within the baby gate, she tears up her wee-wee pads and urinates on the floor. She takes things from the floor, coffee table, or garbage, but doesn’t jump up onto things and doesn’t challenge her baby gate. She knows sit and go. She went for brisk walks and pulled on her leash. Luna approached and sniffed me. She growled when new people entered the room.
