Luna
Hello, my name is Luna. My animal id is #17824. I am a desexed female white dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 07-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Luna is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Due to how uncomfortable Luna is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Luna is a timid little lovebug with the sweetest doe eyes who will steal your heart within seconds of meeting her. She’s uncertain when I come to take her out, but she still gets up and comes over to meet me, tail wagging. It takes a few treats to coax the leash on, but it’s obvious she does want to come with me, and once outside she shows off her excellent leash manners. She’s a dream to walk, but does startle at some of the loud truck noises in the neighborhood. When I crouch down to offer some treats, instead of taking them, she snuggles up next to me for reassurance in this scary loud world. How sweet she is!! So it seems like she’s fearful of loud noises and new environments, but not people! She actually craves affection. Luna would probably like a quiet home in a not-so-busy neighborhood and with humans who will take their time with her and let her get comfortable at her own pace. If you are that patient person looking for a total sweetheart with a puppy face, but not the rambunctious puppy personality, then Luna is your girl!

When another dog greets her, she immediately closes her mouth and displays lip licks and whale eyes. According to Luna’s previous owner, Luna lived with another dog but mostly avoided her, growling when the other dog was close. The Behavior Department believes Luna would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in the home. Any other resident dog should be respectful and match her calm demeanor. 1/8: When off leash at the Care Center, Luna briefly exchange sniffs with a novel male dog then mostly avoids him and hides behind the handlers. 1/10-11: In a group of calm respectful female dogs, Luna briefly greets them, then anxiously paces around the pens. Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Luna may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Luna to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations.
