04/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
Lucy is a 2 year old APBT mix. Her owner was evicted, couldn’t take her to his new home, and left her in his apt. She was alone for 1 week. An employee in the building complex, who had pet-sat Lucy for 2 months in the past, while her owner was in jail, brought Lucy to ACC. Lucy’s tail sometimes bleeds at the tip from wagging against things. Lucy is friendly/outgoing with new people. She plays somewhat rough, jumping up on and hugging people. She ignores dogs while on walks, but if large dogs approach her and initiate play, she plays somewhat rough and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. When small dogs approach her, she retreats and walks away. She’s never bit anyone. Lucy doesn’t mind storms. She’s afraid of snow, and won’t walk outside while it’s snowing. She’s cautious while walking in fallen snow. She’s friendly with strangers who approach her home/family. She doesn’t mind when someone takes her food/treat/toy, moves her off furniture, holds/restrains her, or wakes her up. She doesn’t sit still while bathed or brushed but isn’t nervous. She pulls her paws away during nail trims. Lucy’s caretaker describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and very high energy. He thinks she would love to have a job, to learn agility or other dog sports, or to go on regular runs. She followed him around. She loves her kong toy and playing chase. She lived inside and slept with her owner. She ate dry Pedigree puppy food with a little wet food. She’s housetrained, potties outside in grass, and doesn’t have accidents. While home alone, she might play with items on the floor, and she chewed and tore up a bean bag. If objects aren’t left out on the floor, she’s well-behaved while home alone. She whines while alone in the yard with a 4′ chain link fence but doesn’t try to escape. She sits when asked and is learning to lie down and stay. She went for brisk walks and runs and played in the yard. She pulls on her leash and would likely do better with a no-pull harness. Lucy had a super loose, wiggly body, fast wagging tail, and open mouth. Upon meeting us, she stood up and leaned against us, hugging us with her forearms, looking up at us while we pet her. She sometimes did this with all 4 paws on the ground as well. She maintained this while we pet her, scanned her (-), collared her, positioned her for pictures, and walked her around the shelter. She didn’t bark, whine, etc. She pulled on her leash.
04/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lucy..I love Lucy…My kind of girl, strong, boisterous…a tomboy….Full of life and excitement for everything she does… Lucy is the queen of wigglebutts…She is quite a sight in her kennel..Slow down, girl, you are going to hurt your tail….Lucy is leashed in a sec and pulls quite a bit toward the yard. She has a very large smile on her face. She knows she is going to have fun. Her first task is to go to the tennis ball bin. She is smart ! She remembers where the toys are… We enter a pen. So…..what are you waiting for ? Throw the balls..I need to run, jump, catch them…I am no couch potato.. You know that… Indeed I know from reading her owner surrender ‘s notes that Lucy “would love to have a job, learn agility skills and other dogs sports…” Lucy is a strong girl, tall, a bit thin and who could use better skin care. Nothing that a proper diet and a trip to the veterinarian could not take care of. Lucy comes with wonderful comments from the person who doggy sat her for 2 months as her owner was evicted. She is an enthusiastic female, super friendly, good with other pooches and who would love to meet an energetic new master or family . Lucy is bright, playful and affectionate. She will make, given a chance, a most awesome forever best friend!!! Come and meet her at once at the Manhattan Care center.
04/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucy pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Lucy took the toy with a soft body language. Lucy did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Lucy approaches and sniffs the male greeter, then seeks out handler interaction.
04/05/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lucy is polite and social, greeting males and females but not engaging in play. Her finder had been pet sitting her for two months and reports that Lucy ignores dogs while on walks, but if large dogs approach her and initiate play, she plays somewhat rough and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. When small dogs approach her, she retreats and walks away. Based on this information the behavior department feels that Lucy could go to a home with another calm, playful dog. When off leash with other dogs, Lucy approaches and sniffs the male greeter, then seeks out handler interaction. 4/7 update: Lucy greets the other dog briefly. She offers correction for mounting.
