12/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes:I first met Lucky in the waiting room. He was sitting all snuggly, on a chair between his two owners. Such a pretty pooch, a little fox with dark velvety eyes, begging ears and a mushy nose. I asked if I could pet him. He was quite welcoming and gave my hand a lick. I knew I had to see him again and last night, we went for a stroll around the block. What a great walker he is! Although said not to be housetrained, Lucky eliminated fully along the way without marking his territory. A host of dogs were met, small and big. Lucky did not mind them a bit(he was a little shy in one of our playgroups with his peers although he tried to mingle). It was much too dark for outside pictures so we had to settle for the next best…A lit hallway. Lucky was fine with me tethering him loosely to the wall and outfitting him with a scarf. He sat obediently, treats helping of course(he took them gently from my hand) and posed patiently for the pictures. He was in no way wary of the eye of my new camera that is quite big…Of course, I was gentle in my handling of Lucky. He was a family dog, happy among his loved ones counting children he used to play with. To find himself in a strange environment, between 4 walls is pretty scary for a little dog’s brain and sometimes leads them to react in ways they would never do at home. In a nutshell, I was quite pleased with my encounter with Lucky. He is friendly, likes to be caressed, talked to, is well mannered and easy to be with.Consistent, patient, firm while gentle teaching should likely put Lucky on the right track. A volunteer writes: Looking every bit like a baby fox, Mr. Lucky joins us when his family moved. I noticed that in my first pictures his ears are straight up, and in additional pictures they fold over…..I can’t help but wonder if that indicates a comfort level and acceptance of me as a friend. Lucky is shy but friendly and affectionate, giving me lots of kisses once our relationship is established. In my lap for kisses, running off to greet a dog passing our pen, and then back for kisses, his lush coat calls for my fingers to run through it. Our little, smart red head foxy boy is looking for a new person to give him the training and love it sounds like he never had. Won’t you give him a chance?
