09/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: So quiet in his kennel, I couldn’t resist his imploring eyes and of course those rabbit ears! His slightly graying muzzle added to his dignified good looks and that was that! Easily leashed, Lucky used the ‘facilities’ as soon as we were out the door and off we go. He’s good on leash, likes to meet new people, enjoys treats, and is easy going and tail waggy. As we pass other dogs on the street he stops and stares but is easily distracted to move on. Lucky may not be a fan of other dogs so our behavior team recommends that he be an only dog. Alert and interested in his surroundings, he is looking for a new bestie with whom to spend the rest of his life.
09/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unknown Unaltered, Seized SAFER ASSESSMENT:9/12/2016 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog follows at the end of leash, a bit distracted, but is unresponsive to the Assessor at each pass, He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly, quickly loses interest and releases. Summary: Intent on mounting assessor and handler, distracted with treats. Open mouth panting throughout, a bit anxious. No human-directed aggression presented. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. Lucky has also displayed on-leash reactivity (pulling, dropping to the ground, becoming fixated where he cannot be distracted) so using caution when dogs approach on the street is advised. PLAYGROUP: Lucky displays a tense body and air-snaps when greeting through the fence, a muzzle is applied for safety. He rushes in, still tense, and chases after the female greeter and persistently tries to mount. He does not cease with interruption and his leash is picked up to remove him from the pen. Lucky arrived into our care as a stray so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. The behavior team feels that Lucky should be the only resident dog in a new home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/11/16 During his initial medication examination, Lucky allowed all handling to be conducted without issue RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced _X_No young children (under 5) (Because of the anxious behavior Lucky has displayed within in the care centers, a home without young children is recommended.) _X_Single-pet home (See PG notes. This behavior should be followed up with before exposing to further dog /dog interactions. Professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended.) _X_Recommend no dog parks (See PG notes. This behavior should be followed up with before exposing to further dog /dog interactions. Professional trainer/behaviorist is advised.)
