Basic Info: Lucky A1084108 is an 10 yr old male Chihuahua LH mix who is being surrendered due to the owner’s children having allergies. He was last seen by a veterinarian in 2016 and has no known health issues.
Socialization: Around strangers, Lucky is friendly/outgoing. Lucky has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. He is friendly with other dogs and cats and he has not bitten anyone or any other animal.
Behavior: Lucky was walked three times a day by the owner’s son. During storms/fireworks he’ll bark. He isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Lucky loves bath time and being brushed. He hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member he wants to play.
For A New Family to Know: Lucky is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level. The owner likes how friendly & playful he is. He enjoys playing with a rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on in his dog bed. He eats dry dog food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. He knows how to “sit”, “stay” & “come”.
Intake Behavior: Lucky allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. He was then carried and transferred into a kennel with ease.
Behavior:
Lucky was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. He became extremely fearful during the look item air snapping at the assessor hand. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Lucky was not interested in toys.
Lucky was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Lucky around strangers is friendly and outgoing. Lucky has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. He is friendly with other dogs and cats. Lucky allows you to take away her food, bowl, water bowl, or toy away. He enjoys playing with a rope toys and games of fetch & tug”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
Look: 5. Dog snapped
Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Lucky is tolerant of greeting but appears to be more interested in exploring his surroundings.
A volunteer writes:
I got to meet Lucky yesterday, a middle aged tiny Chihuahua as pretty and delicate looking as a china doll. Lucky is very scared and sits at the back of his kennel, his head turned toward the wall. Roastbeef is needed to the rescue…..I put some on Lucky’s blanket. I see a nose, sniffing…I see eyes, scared but interested….I pick up the food and Lucky starts to eat from my hand. I attempt a little stroke on the head. It is accepted..More roastbeef.. Another caress on the neck… The battle has not been won yet but we are making progresses. Tomorrow is another day…Lucky was surrendered into our care with quite good comments..A loving and playful little guy, friendly with strangers, children, other dogs and even cats. I bet our scared Lucky can revert to what he was in his former home and be the adorable peanut, the sweet and loyal friend you always dreamed to have. Lucky is at the Manhattan Care Center.
