PROFILE
Basic info:
Lucky is a 10 year old German Shepard mix. He was adopted from ACC 10 years ago. Lucky has some joint problems and he was last seen by a vet in February of this year. His owner describes him as very friendly and comforting.
Social Life and Personality:
Lucky is great with kids ages 5 and older. He is very loving and tolerant. Lucky loves to have his belly rubbed by anyone, kids included. He has not spent that much time with other dogs but he has lived with a cat his whole life. Cats don’t bother Lucky at all. Lucky is distinguished and civilized. He will let you know when he needs to go out. He is used to being indoors other than going out for walks. Lucky is a lover and he loves to be petted. He has a medium to low activity level. This dog is playful, confident, affectionate, mellow and friendly.
Behavior History:
This big boy has never bitten another living thing of any kind for that matter. Lucky is a really easy going boy. He just gets a little bit particular about his nail trims. He also is not a big fan of bath time but he will allow it.
For a New Family to Know:
Lucky knows a number of commands. He can sit, stay, lay down and go inside on command. He is used to slow walks on the leash and likes to play with balls and rope toys. Lucky isn’t really interested in games like fetch or tug. He has never been crated. He will go to the bathroom outside on either the grass or cement. When Lucky’s owner is home he like to stay close by. He can be left alone at home and he will not cause any issue. Lucky rarely is allowed of the leash but he would stay close to his owner’s side. Lucky does get noticeably nervous during fireworks or thunderstorms. He has been fed both wet and dry food in the past (Science Diet). Lucky loves a good Beggin’ Strip as a treat. He normally sleeps on the floor in the living room.
BEHAVIOR
Lucky came into our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he is loving and tolerant with children ages 5 and older and has lived with a cat his whole life. It is reported he is housebroken and will let you know when he needs to go out. He has never been crated. Lucky whined for attention inside the SAFER assessment room. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, slight wagging tail, relaxed body. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, open mouth, body soft. Lucky followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at end. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Lucky showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs Lucky greets well and is interested but does not engage in play. The Behavior Team feels Lucky would do well with an Average adopter.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail slightly wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, settles at end easily.
Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.
Toy 1: No interest.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Lucky greets well and is interested but does not engage in play.
GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs Lucky greets well and is interested but does not engage in play.
12/30: Lucky ignores the other dog and keeps to himself.
