Behavior during intake Lucious was hiding behind the finder’s legs. He allowed me to collar him. I picked him and placed on the backdrop and positioned him for photos. He snarled when I got too close to his face. His hair is long and apperas that he has trouble seeing but he does not let me near his face to get a closer look. He was then transferred into a kennel.

05/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucious came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray. Finder kept him for two days but said her young children were pulling his tail and being very rough with him and he would hide. During intake, Lucious was hiding behind finder’s legs, snarled when admissions counselor got too close to his face. Lucious showed teeth during his initial medical exam, but did not escalate any further and allowed handling with tense body. He walked very slowly on his relief walk, at times would abruptly stop and needed to be carried. It should be noted this may be due to the significant amount of hair covering his eyes. Lucious averted his eyes during Look item, body tense and stiff. He raised his lip during Sensitivity item, therefore remaining tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. Lucious showed no interest in Toy, appeared interested in the Squeak sound, but did not engage in play. He did not approach the helper dog, but this may be due to vision impairment. Lucious must be placed with a New Hope partner. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, body tense; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog raises lip Toy 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog.
