07/27/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lucey is a bright-eyed, underbite-bearing, puppy-less mama that is impossible not to love! She is a little shy and might not be totally welcoming in her cage at first, but is easily won over with treats, and is as sweet as pie! Despite having an ulcerated mammary gland that I’m sure has her feeling painful and vulnerable, Lucey is very willing to trust, and is so resilient that she’s even able to make lemonade out of the lemons life has handed her! She seems very housebroken and has great leash manners. She looks up at me often (with among the cutest facial expressions ever) and steadily wags her tail. She is SUPER treat-motivated and is quick to wave her paw in the air before I even have time to ask for it. She seems familiar with fetch, and briefly engaged in a game with me, but seemed to grow tired from it quickly. By the end of our time together, she solicits petting, rests her head on my lap, and props her paws up for attention. I’m sure Lucey has been let down by people in the past, but it is time for her to feel the love: she is a wonderful, sweet, gentle lady and she’s ready to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucey came into the shelter on 7/22/16 as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during Intake: Lucey allowed all handling. During SAFER Lucey had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Lucey was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment. Lucey was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Lucey appears to be sociable, However Lucey will need a slow approach and time to warm up, and so the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an “experienced” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted; she is a bit fearful, with her ears back, and her tail tucked. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense, mouth closed, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2 Dog quickly pulls back. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper-Dog:Suger
