02/07/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It doesn’t seem like Loving has received a lot of love, but it’s clear she has a lot to give. Whenever I approach her kennel, is curled up in a ball on her bed. When I rattle the lock, she gets up and is ready to go outside. In the light of day, it’s easy to see that Loving hasn’t been treated as the cherished pet that she is. Her spine protrudes from her shabby coat, she has pressure sores and scarring and it almost seems painful for her to sit. But those eyes–those pleading, seemingly too large for her thin face, soft brown eyes, are nothing but love. She is eager to please, especially when it comes to receiving a snack in return for a command. She seems like she has had some housetraining and she’s rather easy to handle. According to her playgroup information, Loving may do best with calm dogs that match her energy level. Though Loving may have had a rough go of things as of late, she is ready to trust, and while it might take her a little time to warm up, it’s so worth the extra effort. Loving is ready to meet her new family, so ask to meet her today.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/27/17 Loving was relaxed and tolerates all handling during her initial exam. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for a adopter with an previous dog experience) especially with behaviors outlined below. _X_Recommend no dog parks ( Due to Loving’s preference to only socialize with calm dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that Loving only be socialized with other dogs in a more controlled setting. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to counter-condition and desensitize Loving to help her associate other dogs with positive experiences, such as toys or treats.)
