08/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Louie walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He became uncomfortable during the assessment when the assessor tries to position him. Louie was hard to position as he became uncomfortable with some handling. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He became uncomfortable during paw handling and do not allow the handler to do the flank squeeze (air snapping at the assessors hands). During the resources Louie was not interest in toys. Louie came in as stray, his finder had kept him for four days. Louie was tolerant of being picked up, petting and any adult human contact in general. Finder has a five year old male Chihuahua and at first they dogs sniffed each other and then Louie hid behind the sofa and would not come out. Finder never touched Louie’s food while he was eating. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful and is struggling to get away. The dog is not focused and is in constant movement, unconnected to the Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog head flips while pulling back paw. Flank squeeze 1: 5. Dog air snapping Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Louie roams the pen and ignores interaction.
