06/24/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Loredo was picked up and brought to the care center along with Loreta. He has no previous behavior information. When taking Loredo out of his kennel he was fearful, and needed coaxing to the assessment room. After several attempts Loredo was picked up and carried to the behavior room. During SAFER Loredo was in the assessment room, with a low body posture but allowed petting. Loredo was relaxed when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling item to be conducted. Loredo followed during the tag interaction with his body a bit low. During the resource portion of the assessment, Loredo was easy to handle when engaging with the item. Loredo has been showing fearful behavior and avoids interaction in the care center. Loredo does allow soft, slow petting. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Loredo is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Loredo be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is soft and fearful, his tail is low tucked. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is tucked with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, and tail is tucked. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, and tail is tucked. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog smells, then turns away. Loredo has shown no human-directed aggression in the care center, but he is highly fearful and appears undersocialized. We recommend placement of Loredo and Loreta together with a New Hope partner prepared to work slowly and patiently to help the dogs learn to trust human caretakers and to gain confidence with humans and with necessary skills like leash walking.
06/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Loredo was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 6/21: Loredo required a copious amount of coaxing- he balked and pancaked while walking on leash from his kennel and into the play pen. Once in the pen, Loredo was very nervous but showed interest in greeting the other dog. He allowed the other dog to greet him but did not move. 6/26: Loredo and Loreta were taken out together today. When I approached him he had a neutral body, and he took treats in his kennel. He walked out of his kennel by himself, but became very hesitant once outside of it. With much coaxing, and by walking him next to his sister, we managed to get him out to the pens without carrying him. Once in the pens he wandered. He would take treats when offered them but would not solicit. When I attempted to touch him softly on the body, he would flinch and turn his head toward me while licking his lips. He peed and pooped in the pens. The walk back to his kennel was similar to the walk to the pens, and he went into his kennel with no issue
