09/07/16 14:29 Basic Information London is an approximate 5 year old American Pitt Bull terrier who is being surrendered as a stray. Finder stated a friend gave her to him but his father would not allow her in his house. Finder stated she never showed any signs of aggression. She would approach other dogs during walks in a relaxed manner. Behavior during Intake London was relaxed during the intake procedure. She would lay down frequently. She tolerated all handling. The leash would sometimes go in between her legs and I was able to lift her leg without any reaction from her. She did not show any signs of aggression during intake. She ate treats from my hand.
09/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: On my way out the door with London, another volunteer called out to me, ‘Wow, she’s a beauty!’ Indeed she is! Her gorgeous brindle coat is clean and cared for, her weight perfect for her size, and her eyes soft. I notice that she’s walking gingerly, and when I look at the pads on her feet see that they are a bit raw, but she is getting better now. We don’t walk far as its a hot day and the pavement is hot so I don’t want to aggravate anything. London may be housetrained, ‘going’ as soon as we were out the door, she takes a treat gently, and allows me to pet her all over. London needs some time to feel comfortable with a new person in this strange new environment for her. A soft touch, a quiet voice and a person or family who will allow her to feel her way on her own timetable is what our London needs. Does that describe you? A volunteer updates: Beautiful Miss London is slowly opening up to people she knows. Like the shy girl in school who doesn’t know how gorgeous and sought after she is, London enjoys spending time with her chosen friends. Off to investigate new people and dogs in the area, she then circles back, wagging her tail to reassure her human that she’s still her special someone. London still needs a soft approach, a reassuring voice and hand…there is something so special about her…and she’s waiting for that special person to find her. A volunteer updates: Three cheers for Miss London!!! She’s found her rhythm, her balance and greets volunteers with shining eyes, a smile and a tail wag. Happy to make new friends and be out for a walk she’s an easy companion, lying down on a stoop beside me as I stop to take some notes. A sweet kiss, a gentle paw and I’m head over heels in love for totally different reasons than I was the first time we met. Come meet our gorgeous girl and make her yours today!
09/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
London has been at the care center for three weeks. Initially timid and a little uncomfortable with handling, she has acclimated well to her new caretakers and has demonstrated more relaxed and social behavior since her SAFER assessment was completed. We continue to recommend adopters who will help her adjust to her future home and future family, as it took her some time to feel comfortable in the novel shelter environment, but based upon her recent behavior we feel a home with experienced adopters (with some previous dog experience) is appropriate. London’s behavior appears suitable for a home with or without children. 9/9 SAFER assessment: London came to the care center as a stray so her behavior in a home is unknown. She walked nicely on her relief walk. In the assessment room she appeared nervous, tail tucked and avoidant. For Look, her body was tense, tail down, she held the assessor’s gaze. She was stiff for Sensitivity, leaning away from the assessor, tail tucked. During Tag she followed, body soft. She got very stiff during Squeeze and quickly pulled back her paw. She would not let herself be positioned for Flank, avoiding the handled, stiff. She displayed no interest in the Toy. The Behavior Team feels that London would benefit best from an experienced home only where she is allowed a period of decompression to assist in helping her acclimate to her new surroundings before introduction/exposure to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff, quickly pulls back paw. Toy 1. No interest.
09/08/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
London has become increasingly playful as per her most recent re-introduction into playgroup. She arrived into our care as a stray with another female dog, but there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how her behavior around dogs will translate into a home setting. The behavior team feels that London could potentially be adopted to a home with another social dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction and slow introductions. 09/08/16: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, London is nervous. She allows calm greeting and approaches the male greeter dog to sniff. She shies away from play solicitation however does not offer correction. 9/22 update: London plays exuberantly with another playful female dog. 9/23 update: London engages in rough play with another female. She is mouthy and offers paw slaps to solicit as well as jumping on the other dog during play; she responds appropriately to correction. 9/24 update: London engages in play with a male, but she is less exuberant. She will offer correction if mounted.
