02/09/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
2/9/16 London is a 1y3m old female APBT mix. Her owner got her from her previous owner, who asked him to care for her for a few days and never returned. London has ocular discharge on and off. She had some hairloss and pink skin around her body and dry skin on her ears. This was worse when she ate dry Eukanuba food and has been better since she’s been eating dry Merrick chicken, brown rice, and pea food. London is friendly/outgoing w/ strangers. She met a 2 year old child recently and growled and raised her lips when the child was petting/grabbing/pushing her. London plays somewhat rough w/ adults. On walks, she pulls and lunges towards dogs while barking, usually w/ a loose body and w/out growling or piloerection. She plays rough and jumps at their face. If they start growling, she sometimes growls back. She’s never bit any people/animals. London doesn’t mind storms. She’s friendly w/ new people who approach her home/family. She doesn’t mind when someone takes her food/treat. She holds toys tightly in her mouth w/ a loose, wiggly body when someone tries to take it. She doesn’t mind when someone moves her off furniture, holds/restrains her, wakes her up, bathes her, or brushes her. London pulls towards and tries to chew on wheels of passing walkers, strollers, bikes, scooters, carts, rollerblades, etc. She doesn’t vocalize and never attempts to grab body parts. London’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. They’re proud that she learned to walk up and down stairs. She follows them. She plays chase and tug and likes balls, bones, and rope toys. She lived inside and slept on a dog bed next to her owner’s bed. London is mostly housetrained and potties outside on cement. She has accidents next to her bed ~1x/month (usually #1). She’s usually well-behaved while home alone but occasionally plays w/ clothing/bedding (without chewing it). She knows sit and down, can find her ball, and waits until she’s told it’s ok to eat. She went for brisk walks and pulls on her leash. Off-leash, she would run up to people/animals. London had a loose, wiggly body, open mouth, and wagging tail while I pet her, scanned her (-), and collared her. She sat when asked and took treats gently. In the lobby, she pulled towards other dogs and whined with a soft body and open mouth. In the Admissions office, she sat next to her owner. She jumped up and stood in our laps/leaned against us while we pet her.
02/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: London is our MACC tomboy…slightly muscular, compact, dressed in a mouse suit (a mouse that left her shy outfit in her cubby), a healthy gal ready to face life and its challenges with a positive attitude. At the care center, indeed, London is most sociable with people and dogs alike, wagging her tail and seeking attention with such eloquent eyes that nobody can resist. She is a strong and willful girl, excited with measure to be in company and to play. She knows where the stash of tennis balls is and will go right for it. She runs beautifully after and jumps for the ball, plays with it, brings it back and does not mind me taking it out of her mouth. She can sit on command and absolutely loves treats. It is quite comforting and energizing to see a shelter pet with a great spirit. London is a good walker (she does pull a little), seems house trained (she eliminated in the street rather than in the yard) and is thrilled to see other pooches. As a matter of fact, she performs quite well in playgroups with her peers where she is bouncy, play bows and spins to solicit play. She is having quite a ball in there. London did well on her behavioral evaluation, getting an experience rating (meaning she is for experienced dog parents only) as her former temporary owner said that she soft-growled at a child pulling at her tail. London was relinquished into our care by her dog sitter. Yep, London’s real owner never came back for her. She qualifies her as super playful and affectionate, high energy, rambunctious, with no handling or guarding issues but sometimes trying to herd bikes and wheeled things… nothing that an experienced new owner can not curb. London, indeed, is really worth any effort put into her care. She will make a lively, loyal and fun to be forever companion to the one who will open for her his or her door and heart. London is at the Manhattan Care Center.
02/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
London pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. London was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She played tug-of-war with the leash; body was soft and was not difficult to distract her. London took the toy away but had soft body language. London was surrender to us. London’s family describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, and high energy. London is friendly and outgoing with strangers. She met a 2 year old child recently and growled and raised her lips when the child was petting, grabbing and pushing her. London plays somewhat rough with adults. On walks, she pulls and lunges towards dogs while barking. She doesn’t mind when someone takes her food or treat. She holds toys tightly in her mouth with a loose, wiggly body when someone tries to take it. She plays chase and tug and likes balls, bones, and rope toys”. Because of her owner profile the behavior department feels that she can go to an experienced home. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Grab at the leash with a soft body played growl and was not difficult to distract him. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs London is bouncy and playful. She offers bows and spins to solicit as well as during play. When play stops she will seek attention from handlers.
02/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
While in the care center London has been social and playful with males and females. She is very vocal during play and will offer lots of paw slaps. Although she was the only dog in her home, her owner reports that on walks she “pulls and lunges towards dogs while barking, usually with a loose body and without growling or piloerection. She plays rough and jumps at their face. If they start growling, she sometimes growls back.” The behavior department feels that London could go to a home with another playful dog. When off leash with other dogs London is bouncy and playful. She offers bows and spins to solicit as well as during play. When play stops she will seek attention from handlers. 2/11 update: London engages in vocal running play with males and females. She uses her paws to push the other dogs during play. 2/12 update: London engages in pushy, vocal play with males and females. She is respectful to dogs that are not comfortable socializing. 2/13 update: London continues to exhibit these behaviors when off leash with other dogs.
