Lollipop
Hello, my name is Lollipop. My animal id is #15885. I am a desexed female white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 11-Dec-2017.
Lollipop is at risk for behavioral concerns. Lollipop does not enjoy handling, and is snappy when attempts are made to handle her. Lollipop is significantly overweight, and it is very likely this contributes to her sensitivity. Due to Lollipop’s behavior, she is seeking placement only with a New Hope partner.

Upon intake, Lollipop would move away when I approached. When I tried to collar her, she would move her head out of the way to avoid being collared. Lollipop became tense when I petted her and would look away. Lollipop allowed me to put a leash on her and followed me towards her kennel. Lollipop did not allow me to pick her up and when I tried would turn around and lunged at me, showing her teeth and snapping.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Lollipop so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. In the care center, she displays a medium level of activity.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to how uncomfortable Lollipop is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Lollipop has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has displayed a potential for defensive aggression. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Lollipop is fearful at the care center and has growled and snapped. It is important to always go slow and give Lollipop the option to walk away from any social interaction. Lollipop should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Lollipop’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Lollipop would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.
