09/24/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Lola A1124323 is at-risk due with an experienced home determination due to deteriorating behavior. Since her CIRDC has resolved and she has returned to the adoption room, Lola has displayed extreme on-leash reactivity towards both dogs in the hallway and dogs in their kennel. She is difficult to control at times- lunging, flailing and barking at every single kennel when being walked into and out of the room. Also, today in PG her behavior also has deteriorated. She once was social and at times participated in gentle play in a group of dogs however today she displayed concerning behavior toward a social male (see GROUPBEHAVIOR notes).

09/22/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Her name is LOLA and she is a super sweet, goofy girl! She is very lanky and uses her paws a lot (like a boxer!) and has the cutest and most expressive face — like she really has eyebrows and splotches around her mouth like she just devoured a chocolate shake. She seems to have a good amount of energy, but is easy to handle and happy to burn it off with toys (she’s so smart she tosses them for herself!). She is very treat motivated, knows “sit” and “paw” and seems housebroken. She sees a friend in every new face and would love to kiss yours every time you come home…come see her at Brooklyn ACC!
09/24/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 9/4/17 Spayed, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/6/17 Look:1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity:1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Summary: Lola was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care center, Lola is initially anxious, but warms up to the novel male and female dog. She engages in brief bouts of play, before becoming overwhelmed and offering corrections. She explores the pens, and occasionally displays an assertive posture with nervous dogs. Lola was surrender as a stray so her past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Lola be placed in a home with resident dogs that are well socialized and match her calm sociability. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 9/4/17: Upon intake Lola was very friendly, she allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/5/17: During her medical examination, Lola was very sweet and allowed all handling. IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: 9/24/17 Lola’s behavior is rapidly deteriorating here at the Care Center. She once was social and at times participated in gentle play in a group of dogs however today she displayed concerning behavior toward a social male helper (see GROUPBEHAVIOR notes). At this time, The Behavior Team does not feel that she is safe to house in public adoptions and she should leave the care center environment as soon as possible.
ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Lola so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced home only. Potential challenges: _X_ On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration- At the care center Lola’s behavior has dramatically deteriorated since she returned to the general population from isolation. She has been observed to react to other dogs on leash, lunging, barking, and leaping into the air snapping. This behavior may be a direct result of being housed in the Care Center for an extended period time because prior to the last 48 hours, Lola displayed social behavior towards other dogs in playgroup and was not reactive while on leash. This behavior will need to be addressed in a more controlled environment and a consolation with a certified trainer or professional behaviorist is recommended, as is only positive based techniques.

She occasionally checks in with the other dog but spends most of the time keeping to herself. 9/7-9/10: In a group of nervous dogs, Lola is slightly assertive- following another dog, and attempting to mount her. She eventually listens to handler interruptions and explores her surroundings. 9/11- 9/13: Lola engages in brief bouts of bouncy play with a variety of other dogs. She is still slightly uncomfortable but tolerates other dogs’ solicitations. Lola gives strong corrections for mounting behavior- chest bump, growl and freeze. 9/24: Lola greets a neutral male with a stiff, tense posture.
