08/24/16 12:25 BASIC INFO Lionel A1087046 and Lola A1087047 were both found tied to a pole in a park in the Bronx 3 days ago. Finder cannot keep. Finder took into home for 3 days. Finder stated that they were well behaved. They slept on the floor. Lionel and Lola are house trained and went potty outside only. Finder stated that they did not try to take away the food bowl, water bowl or toy away, so they would not know how they would respond. There was a 3 year old child in the home and a 10 month old baby in the home and the dogs played gently with the kids. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Lionel and Lola allowed all handling, collaring and photos.
08/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hey up there! My name is Lola and I’m no show dog but if you want to dress me in a yellow feather boa, I promise not to eat it…much. I came to the Care Center with my bossy twin brother, Lionel, and even though I was really scared at first and didn’t know who to trust, I’m feeling like my old self again and can’t wait to get up each day so I can play, eat, love and meet new two and four-legged friends. Lionel is a boy but he’s also very pretty and you might have a hard time telling the two of us apart, I hear people say we’re like two peas in a pod but of course, I’m the sweeter one! Our first owner tied us up in the park and walked away and that was sad and scary but then a new friend came along, untied us and we went home for a few days. It felt sooo good to be inside and safe again and I made sure to be extra well-behaved, especially around the tiny two-legged people who lived in the house. Of course it was like old times with Lionel and me, playing and chilling and eating and playing some more and then going to sleep together on the floor. Sigh, I miss that. I’m trying to make the best of things and get used to kennel life and it’s fun to go for walks with the volunteers and show off my ‘come’, ‘sit’ and house training skills for them (sometimes they give food as a reward!) but what I really, truly want is to be back in a home. My name is Lola and I’m no show dog but I could be your best friend, your sidekick, your snuggle buddy, your playmate, your pet. I could be your girl and you could be my everything. Will you come dance with me?
08/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lola came to the care center along with another similarly sized dog after a member of the public found her as a stray. Finder kept both dogs for three days, states Lola was gentle with young children in the home and appeared housebroken. Upon intake, Lola allowed all handling. For her relief walk, Lola pulled slightly, head low, nervous. She approached assessor slowly and cautiously upon entering SAFER assessment room. Lola whined in between assessment items throughout assessment, was uncomfortable with up close tactile handling and at times low growled towards the exit. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands for Look item, body relaxed. Lola head flipped during Sensitivity item, was uncomfortable and tense during Tag, jumping up and vocalizing. Lola moved her body away during paw Squeeze, so remaining item was conducted using Flank. She sniffed assessor’s hand during both Flank Squeezes. Lola showed no interest in Toy. The Behavior Team feels Lola would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have Children. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Lola to new and unfamiliar situations. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, whines, body relaxed Sensitivity: 3. Dog is not fearful , head flips Tag: 3. Dog responds by jumping towards assessor, vocalizes, whines, a bit tense Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1/2. Dog sniffs assessor’s hand Toy 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Lola is nervous and offers defensive correction when approached.
08/25/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Lola is nervous and offers defensive correction when approached. Her finder kept her and a male dog in his home for three days and reported they were “well behaved.” The behavior team feels that Lola should be allowed time to acclimate to life outside the shelter environment as the only resident dog, before following up on her behavior around unfamiliar dogs.
