01/28/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Her name is Lola, she is such a sweet girl! She’s a little pudgy and has the most charming face — splotches of black in just the right spots make her face look almost painted… she is a showgirl in her own way! She is quiet in her cage, easy to handle, and seems housebroken. She absolutely loves treats (she has to maintain her figure after all!) and will “sit” and give paw. She hasn’t been outright cuddly with me, but wags her tail when getting petted, looks at me with very soft eyes, and will even rest her head on my lap. When I take her off leash she seems to look for fun, batting at tennis balls with her paws and gallivanting around. I regret only having rather generic things to say about her, because I actually think she is quite special. In fact she’s left such a strong impression on me that on a recent volunteering day I was completely devastated when I realized that my “save the best for last” strategy backfired and I ran out of time for Lola! Please come meet her for yourself at Brooklyn ACC!
01/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lola came to us as a stray, so we do not have any other behavior information other than what has been observed in the shelter at this time. Lola had soft body language when entering the behavior room and was interested in exploring her surroundings rather than interact with the assessor. She allowed the assessor to conduct all of the tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. She only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Lola can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Lola greets with a low, soft body but with raised hackles. Once let inside the pen, she becomes more nervous with direct interaction and as the other dog increases it’s distance from her she begins to relax her body.
01/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Lola greets with a low, soft body but with raised hackles. Once let inside the pen, she becomes more nervous with direct interaction and as the other dog increases it’s distance from her she begins to relax her body. 1/27 update: Lola greets the helper dog with a stiff body, slightly tucked tail and raised hackles. She does however approach and exchange sniffs and tolerates mild pushy behavior.
