04/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hi everyone, I’m Logan!!! I was a little shy when I first got to this place, and still am sometimes but so much better. Everyone here is so nice to me so I wag my tail to let them know I appreciate it. I really like people so it’s great to meet everyone and get to go for a walk to go potty. I do well on leash, as I figured out that if I show my good manners more people will want to walk me. Am I smart or what?! I’m too thin so I’m getting fed an extra meal each day, so yum! My new friend, Volunteer, told me I have crate feet from being in a crate too long where I lived before, and I do need a mani/pedi as my nails are too long, but once I’m walked regularly and taken care of as I should be, it will all come together. I showed off my sit for Volunteer, and she told me I was a good boy and gave me a treat which I know how to take gently. I LOVE to cuddle with my person and give kisses, so am looking for a human who likes that. I’m sometimes a bit hesitant to walk into new areas without first scoping them out, but the more I see of the world the better it will get. The behavior team thinks I’ll do well in a family with some dog experience and I agree with them! Just let me take my time getting to know you and know what’s expected of me, give me lots of hugs and kisses and I’ll be your bestie forever and ever! Won’t that be grand! Come over today and be sure to ask for me — that’s Logan!
04/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Logan came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray. He was easy to place in and out of his crate and walked well, allowed all handling. Logan held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft, mouth closed. He was uncomfortable during Tag, fearful and trying to exit on second pass, but was unresponsive on third pass, and approached assessor at end of game with coaxing. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Logan playfully appeared interested in Toy, play bowing, but did not fully engage. When off leash with other dogs Logan allows greeting but will mostly seek attention from handlers. The Behavior Team feels Logan would do well with an Average adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, relaxed. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful on second pass, attempts to exit/crouching. No response to last pass, approaches assessor at end with coaxing. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog play bows towards toy, appears interested, but does not fully engage Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Logan allows greeting but will mostly seek attention from handlers.
04/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Logan initially kept to himself during off leash interaction, but has recently begun to show interest in soft play with males and females. He arrived into our care as a stray, so in-home behavior around dogs is unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placement into a home with a resident dog. When off leash with other dogs Logan allows greeting but will mostly seek attention from handlers. 4/5 update: Logan offers a few sniffs but mostly keeps to himself. 4/6 update: Logan engages in soft play with males and females, at times mounting during play.
