Logan

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 15-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving – out of country.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Logan is at risk for behavioral reasons. Logan is very fearful, and this can result in behaviors associated with defensive aggression. Medically, we have no concerns for Logan, who presents as a healthy dog.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Logan’s history of snapping at strangers, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Logan’s history in his previous home, as well as warning signals displayed at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Logan was reported to snap at new people in his previous home. We have also seen this behavior at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Logan the option to walk away from any social interaction. Logan should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Logan’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Logan would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Logan is reported to bark at and snap at dogs. Logan may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach him to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
