04/03/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/29/16 19:34 BASIC INFO Loby A1068834 is an approximately 3 year old Poodle/Shih Tzu Mix. He is being surrendered to the shelter because the owner has personal problems and cannot keep him. He was a gift to the owner 6 months ago. Loby does not have any health concerns. SOCIALIZATION Loby is friendly around strangers. He plays gently with adults. He loves to play with a sock toy. Loby has never lived with another dog. He has never bitten anyone. BEHAVIOR Loby does not have any behavior issues. He allows you to touch his food bowl, water bowl, or toy away. He allows you to bathe him. If an unfamiliar approaches the owner or doorway, he is quiet. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Loby is best described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. He has a high activity level. When home, he follows you around. Loby has been kept mostly indoors. He eats pedigree dry dog food. He is house trained and prefers to go potty on cement. For exercise he is walked on a leash. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Loby allowed all handling, collaring and photos. 04/03/16 16:56 Loby was adopted and returned one day later due to lack of time. His owners report that he was carrying his blanket and brought it to them. They tried to take it from him and he growled. He brought it to them a second time. They reached for it and he lunged at them twice. They left him with his blanket. He also growled at his owner when she moved his food bowl closer to him to encourage him to eat. They report that he’s otherwise friendly and excited with new people. They describe him as affectionate and high energy as well. They report that he was well-behaved in their home and seems housetrained. Loby had a loose, wiggly body while he stood up and leaned against me while I pet him. He whined after his owners left. He had a soft body while I collared and scanned him (+).

04/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Loby’s previous owner did not note any behavior concerns in the home. However, he did show some warning behaviors during the squeeze item of SAFER and, in a new home environment for 24 hours, growled over two different resources (blanket and food bowl). While he has otherwise been social and affectionate, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can follow up on these behaviors and provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children. 3/31 SAFER: Loby walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Loby had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He became stiff and uncomfortable during the second paw squeeze (freezing and raising his lips). Loby was not interested in toys Loby was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Loby is friendly around strangers. He plays gently with adults. He loves to play with a sock toy. Loby has never lived with another dog. He allows you to touch his food bowl, water bowl, or toy away”. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter without any children who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes Toy: 1. No interest.
