09/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Livilla (what a pretty given name) is with us as a good samaritan found her and brought her to the care center. She is as cute and delightful as indicated by her name but as timid as a mouse. Her eyes steal the show and capture one’s attention at once. Pale green and deep, they remind me of a secluded lagoon in some exotic destination. Livilla is really to live for. She is very tentative in her kennel but gets leashed easily. We first aim for the yard where she hops immediately on the bench before I do. How did she know we would sit there? She does not shy away from my caresses but is not tempted by my treats. She is really beautiful, latte and cream, although her coat isn’t its best. Nothing that can’t be mended with a proper diet and good housing conditions. Livilla is good on the walk. She loosens up as we head for the park. We settle on the sidewalk. Livilla really feels better now. She rolls on her side, drops her serious face and smiles at me with laughing eyes. What a transformation. She is such a sweet gal! Livilla made me even happier and proud of her when she met another young gal in a playgroup. Bye bye shyness, hello fun and play. Both young females were such a pleasure to watch. I fell in love with Livilla. She is precious, delicate looking, petite, lovely and loving. A wonderful forever best friend she will make if you choose to take her home. Come and meet Livilla at the Manhattan Care center. She is waiting for you. Another volunteer writes: A petite peanut, shy, sweet and gentle. Happy to make a new friend but will wait to give of herself completely until she’s sure. She has the most gorgeous light green eyes ready to bewitch you with the promise of endless love. Her tail wags as we walk, and from time to time she does a little bounce with the joy of being out, with the joy of making a new friend, and with the hope of a bright future in the embrace of a new person or family. She takes treats gently–and gentle is the best word to describe her. She’s so easy to love, and small enough to fit into any living situation. Come meet her today; you won’t want to leave without her.
09/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Livilla came into our center after a member of the public found her as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was tense during intake, would treat from extended hand but eventually allowed petting and handling. Livilla walked slowly for her relief walk, tail down, head low. She approached the assessor slowly upon entering the SAFER assessment room. Livilla allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body low, trembling. She leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, head low, mouth closed. Livilla followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body low and a bit fearful. She gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Livilla warmed up significantly with Toy, keeping a firm grip, body not stiff. When introduced off leash to another female dog in the care center, Livilla engages in play, spinning, and bouncing. The Behavior Team feels Livilla would do well with an Experienced adopter. She would benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction, preferably with treats and a toy. Once comfortable, Livilla was loose and playful. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is fearful; tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, body not stiff. Dog-dog: When introduced off leash to another female dog in the care center, Livilla engages in play, spinning, and bouncing
