KNOWN HISTORY: 3/22/17 Neutered male, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Lito had a loose wiggly body and was receptive to handling SAFER ASSESSMENT: 3/25/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with tense body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, attempts to exit. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 2:1 Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smells, then turns away. Summary: Lito was a bit uncomfortable but allowed all handling during the assessment, he displayed no concerns. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: In the Care Center, Lito solicits and engages in high energy play with male and female dogs. Lito was found as a stray, so his past behavior with another dog is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Lito be placed with resident dogs that match his high energy play style. IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: 4/6/17 Lito has begun to bite at the rope when being removed from his kennel. Today when being brought to playgroup, one of the behavior staff had a difficult time leashing him and running him outside due to this behavior and his kennel reactivity- lunging at each kennel when being walked in and out of adoptions. Due to these behavior concerns and for the safety of staff, other dogs and for Lito’s well-being, placement should be sought as soon as possible. He remains suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience, but Lito is not thriving in the shelter environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 3/22/17 During his initial medical examination, Lito allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Lito so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
03/23/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
In the Care Center, Lito solicits and engages in high energy play with male and female dogs. Lito was found as a stray, so his past behavior with another dog is unknown. When the pen door opens, Lito briefly acknowledges the novel female, displaying a nervous posture (tail slightly tuck, paw up) , and then continues to explore the pen, keeping to himself. 3/24: Lito displays a forward, stiff body when introduced to a novel male. He remains uncomfortable when that dog continues to approach him and increases his distance, exploring the pen. 3/25: Today, Lito display a slightly softer body when interacting with a novel female. He continues to explore his surroundings, briefly checking on her. 3/26: In a group of male and female dogs, Lito initially keeps to himself while wandering the pen with a soft body.
