01/29/2017 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I call her my “Little Monkey”! Indeed, Link thinks that her caretaker is a coconut tree…. Just sit on a bench or a chair and she will want to climb all over you and end up as a “boa” around your neck. She kisses galore and expects the same in return. Her tail wags non stop and she so loved to be scratched and caressed. I like Link a lot. I love her Yin/Yang face and her Little Rascal looks. She absolutely loves treats, can sit for them and will search my goodies bag for more. She is not skinny though and quite nicely dressed in her white and brindle coat splashed with gold hues. She acts a little wary when someone approaches our pen where we are smooching but relaxes very quickly when she sees that this person means well (treats helping of course). Link has absolutely no handling issues and is not camera shy, she pulls just a little on the street, does her business at the start of our walk and does not mind nearing other dogs, big or small. I really like her and I very much hope that she will find a new owner or family who will give her as much love as she holds herself in her heart. Come and meet Link soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
01/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 1/27/17 Unaltered Female, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 1/29/17 Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, closed mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog sniffs toy. Summary: Link displayed no concerning behavior on her assessment. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with a small dog, Link greets gently but backs away from the other dogs approach. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 1/28/17 During her initial medical exam, Link was tense at first but then became social. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Link so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
01/28/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Link has been anxious around other dogs during her stay at the care center, so it cannot be said how she will interact with dogs once she has decompressed in a home. The behavior department recommends a slow approach and structured introductions before placing Link into a home with other dogs. When off leash with a small dog, Link greets gently but backs away from the other dogs approach. 1/29: Link is tolerant of greeting from both male and female dogs but is focused on seeking exit.
