08/01/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 7/29/17 Unaltered Female, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/1/17 Summary: Lindsey was difficult to remove from the kennel; she appears to be uncomfortable or afraid of the slip lead. She allowed minimal handling from her caretakers. Lindsey was uncomfortable walking on the leash, she would pull away and flee in the other direction. Once she entered into the assessment room she would stay by the door with a low body posture and her tail tucked. When the handler attempted to pet her would jump and shy would shy away from touch. Out of concern for her stress levels and her response to restraint, we feel Lindsey is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time. Please see her owner surrender profile for a full summary of her behavior in her previous home. PLAYGROUP: Lindsey’s owner reported to the police that she was attacking his other dogs. No further details were provided. When off leash at the Care Center, Lindsey is extremely fearful but does approach both a novel male and female dog. Throughout the remainder of her session she mostly avoids further contact with the helper dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 7/29/17: Upon intake Lindsey kept her tail tucked, trembling with her ears back, she allowed limited handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/30/17: During her medical examination, Lindsey was nervous and trembling but allowed all handling. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Lindsey has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: Though observed to be human-social, Lindsey may need time to warm up to the handler as she initially presents as a fearful dog, avoiding contact, shying away from direct touch. We recommend allowing Lindsey to interact at her own pace, force-free, rewarding based training is advised when introducing her to new/unfamiliar situations. _X_Handling sensitivity

However throughout the remainder of her session she mostly avoids further contact with the helper dog.
