08/08/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/08/16 BASIC INFO Lilo is a 4 year old APBT / American Staffordshire Terrier mix. His family adopted him from ACC 3 years ago and surrendered him because they had a new baby and feel that their home is too small for their growing family. SOCIALIZATION Lilo is friendly/outgoing with new people. He lived with a child from 11-14 years old as well as a baby from 0-3 months old. Lilo is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with children. He plays gently-exuberantly with children and exuberantly-somewhat rough with adults. He visited the dog park regularly and is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with others. He mounts female dogs. When dogs bark or growl at him, he looks at them and then to his owners for direction. He’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Lilo’s shivers during storms. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, or bathes him. He loves being brushed. He’s friendly with strangers who come into his home and is usually friendly with strangers who approach him and his family on walks. He barks at about 2% of strangers who approach him on walks. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Lilo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow (most of the time at home), excitable (when someone initiates play), and high energy. He followed his family and cuddled in their laps. He played with stuffed toys. He played fetch, chase, and tug. He lived inside and slept on a blanket. He ate dry Purina food and got Dentastix treats. He’s housetrained, pottied anywhere outside, and didn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He broke out of crates when he was younger, so his owners quickly stopped crating him. He sits, lies down, and stays when asked. He went for slow-brisk walks and played in fenced areas. He sometimes pulls on his leash. Lilo was moving around a lot, especially after his owners left, often pulling in the direction they left. He sometimes took treats from us, always gently. He maintained moving around a lot while I scanned him (+). When I began collaring him, he began play-bowing and barking towards the door. Later, he sniffed us while I collared him. He sat when asked but quickly began pulling again. He wagged his tail softly while we approached him and talked to him. He whined and panted frequently and tried to stand up against the door. When I stooped down, he sat on my feet, leaned into me, and licked my face while I pet him.
08/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: With the cutest face ever on a good looking well groomed physique, I’m both sad and thrilled to meet Lilo again, as I loved him the first time he was with us. I’d like to think he remembered me from 3 years ago, but I doubt it, after I saw him give everyone he met the same hug and snuggle he gave me! So much for being special :). He pulls a bit on the leash, went potty the moment we were out the door, and was happy to receive attention from three women who wanted to meet him when we were out for a walk. Surrendered back to our care due to a new baby in what his family thinks is too small a home for their growing family, his resume as a family dog is outstanding: he’s friendly with new people, lived with his human sibling from ages 11-14 and now a new baby, is relaxed, playful and tolerant with children, visited a dog park regularly and plays exuberantly, and when dogs bark or growl at him he looks at his owners for direction. As I walked him, we passed dogs of all sizes, whom he noticed and walked by easily. We’re also told that he’s mellow much of the time, excitable when someone initiates play, and energetic, housetrained, cuddles on the family’s laps, played with stuffed toys and plays fetch, chase and tug. Lilo was crate-trained when he was younger, but now no longer needs one as he’s well behaved when left home alone. I loved snuggling with this gorgeous guy as he gives freely of kisses, leaning in for optimum closeness. A family dog looking for a family to love, Lilo is hoping you’ll stop by to meet him today.
08/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lilo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Lilo is friendly and outgoing with new people. He lived with a child from 11-14 years old as well as a baby from 0-3 months old. He plays gently-exuberantly with children and exuberantly though somewhat rough with adults. He visited the dog park regularly and is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with others. Lilo did not show any concern during the behavior assessment, though due concern shown outside of the care center, the behavior department feels that he would benefit best from an experienced home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Lilo engages in exuberant, bouncy play. The previous owners of Lilo cite that “He visited the dog park regularly and is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with others. He mounts female dogs.” The behavior department feels that Lilo may be placed into a home with another social dog pending a successful pre-aoption interaction. 8/17 Update: Lilo was adopted and an hour after adoption he was returned due to some concerns with handling. Lilo and his previous adopters walked into a Petco to fit Lilo for a new harness, when a Petco employee attempted to put to the harness on, Lilo snapped at her face. Attempts from Lilo’s former adopters resulted in the same response from Lilo, because of this reason, he was returned to our care center. The behavior department advises any future adopter to allow Lilo to acclimate to his new environment as well as an appropriate period of decompression. Force-free based training is recommended to help Lilo thrive and succeed during new and unfamiliar situations.
08/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/9: When off leash with other dogs, Lilo engages in exuberant, bouncy play. The previous owners of Lilo cite that “He visited the dog park regularly and is relaxed, playful, tolerant, and plays exuberantly with others. FROM APRIL 2013: A volunteer writes: This handsome guy is in an upper kennel and needs to be lifted down. No handling issues at all – just lets himself be picked up and placed on the ground, tail wagging all the while. As we walk out the door I admire his very unusual coloring as does staff who turns to watch him pass. Likely housetrained Lucky ‘went’ as soon as we were out the door. Lucky has a playful, scampering walk but also has the slightly bent legs of a dog who was crated for far too many hours. He needs long walks and exercise to strengthen his muscles. Nothing stops him however, he is playful and happy, going into play bows to all dogs met in the park, giving stand up hugs and wagging his tail at kids we pass in a joyful and easy hello. He sits on command, takes treats gently, posed for his photos and was so relaxed during it all he actually lay down at one point. Lucky has such a friendly demeanor along with being so handsome that people turn to watch us pass, and a couple actually stopped to watch us take pictures. After our photo session Lucky and I adjourned to the park bench where we cuddled and kissed and watched the world go by. This delightful guy is ready to begin his forever in a family that will provide him with the love and exercise he needs. He’s a totally smushy boy ready to steal your heart. Ask to meet him today.
