06/30/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Flynn was surrendered to the shelter when his owner had personal problems. Flynn was friendly with me and the other volunteer while out for a walk and to have his picture taken. Lifeline sat when asked and eagerly took a back scratch as payment for his good behavior. Lifeline doesn’t seem to be a very high energy dog and lounged outside in the play yard with us, occasionally walking around to check things out. We like FLynn a lot and know you will, too. Come to the Care Center and meet him. You won’t be disappointed!!! Note: A# of Flynn in the video is erroneous. The correct A# of this dog is A1078668.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Flynn came into our center along with his littermate as an owner surrender. According to the previous owners, Flynn lived two adults, and children ages 5, 7, 9 and 10. Flynn has lived with three other dogs (two Pit Bulls and one Maltese), two Chinchillas, one rabbit and one cat, reportedly played well with all the other animals and children in the home. He was friendly and allowed all handling upon intake. Flynn walked nicely on leash for his relief walk into the SAFER assessment area, no pulling. He was easy to position for all tactile portions of the assessment. Flynn held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, slight wagging tail. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears and tail neutral. Flynn followed at the end of the leash during Tag game, head low on 2nd and 3rd pass, approached assessor at end of game with gentle coaxing. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, slight lip lick. Flynn showed no interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he enjoys playing tug with his littermate. Flynn approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, tail at spine level. The Behavior Team feels Flynn would do well with an Average adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog follows at the end of leash, head low on 2nd and 3rd pass, approaches assessor at end of game with gentle coaxing. Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog does not pull back paw, slight lip lick.
