Lexy looks to me like she has a broken heart.. She lays, facing the wall in her kennel, not allowing visitors to see her beautiful face…We all know the remedy…Another meaning ful and forever love story…..That is what I am hoping for this wonderful family dog who is with us for no fault of her own. Indeed, her owners lost their home… Lexy lived and played…gently despite her size, with children of all ages.  Never did she get carried away in her play. She shared peacefully  her life at some point with dogs and even a cat. She was extremely sociable to strangers and never showed any handling issues, making her suitable for any kind of home settings. I tap on her shoulder…Lexy..time to get to know each other… I like her big  and square horsey face. She owns giant ears , beautiful wings she would like to  fly and go back…home…As noted by other volunteers, Lexy walks very nicely on the leash and of course, eliminates on the way. She acts timid, a bit aloof, her tail is between her legs and she takes some time to come around. She is a statuesque female, all dressed in grey, overly thin for her size and understandably quite hungry for treats.  she meets politely other dogs in the street or though the fence and has been shy in playgroups. After a while spent together, Lexy  hopped on the bench next to me. We did not speak…She squeezed her body against mine and I hugged and kissed her lovely head…back in her den, Lexy came to her door as I passed by on my way out home…and licked my hand.. Lexy scored high on her behavioral evaluation. I did not expect less from her. Come and meet this beautiful gal and make her wish come true…A new family to belong to and to love…

A volunteer writes:
Trust is the first word that comes to my mind when I think of Lexy, a big and strong girl  in a silky mouse suit . I feel so comfortable around her because she is so “balanced”, confident without being pushy, transparent in all her actions and also very sociable and friendly. Lexy was relinquished into our care because she was too active for her owner. Sometimes, sadly, when one is overwhelmed, “getting rid ” of what seems the most disposable, is an outlet… We never should be judgmental but I could not imagine my life without LexyLou if she was mine…She was a perfect playmate for the 3 children of the house, a greeter for visitors and a cat lover. Dogs were never a problem for her. House trained , loving to be groomed, playful and not getting into mischief when alone….I can understand a parent of three children, though, wanting not to have to worry about a fourth one, even if Lexy was owned since the age of 3 month..Lexy is an enthusiastic gal. She pulls on the leash but sometimes strolls very majestically  in the street. You might feel like a King or a Queen just walking her…She has an eye for the pigeons. She loves her time in the yard where she enjoys..free time. Her actions are always goal oriented. She is not distracted but attuned to her caretaker. She does get excited and could be labelled..an elephant in a china shop…but she  never gets carried away by her actions. She loves treats and will jump or sit for them. She owns a most beautiful smile and her tail wags non stop She selects her own tennis balls, plain yellow and not red and yellow and plays , plays, plays. She never guards her stuff. Her teeth feel like a gentle tease on my hand.  A ball is something to cherish. Laying on  a bench and chewing on it while being caressed..Heaven on earth…Lexylou is my kind of girl and looking at her walking log, I see that I am not her sole admirer…She is a looker, one of a kind dog who turns head  because she is truly majestic. Her  batty ears and wrinkly muzzle add a mysterious twist to her looks. Lexy made a good impression from the moment she entered the care center. She gave kisses to the staff ,  rubbed herself to them and complied with all orders. Beautiful Lexy has my vote and my unconditional love. Please, do come and meet her and see if you feel the way I do. She is no couch potato and would prefer and active owner although she does love to lazy around… Lexy is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping to start a new chapter in her life with you.

SAFER

Lexy pulls hard on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Lexy was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was not interested in toys.

Lexy was surrender to us. Her previous owner described her as a being friendly always greeting people with a loose wiggly body, happy wagging tail and open mouth.Lexy lived with 3 children ages ranging from 1 – 11 yrs old,Lexy was seen playing with all the children in a calm and relaxed manner never getting over excited.Lexy was said to have gotten along with dogs and cats she lived with a cat for a short period of time and would be seen sleeping in the same small dog bed. Lexy didn’t show any food guarding behaviors. She allowed all the children to play with her toys and give her treats which she gently would take from their hands”. Lexy did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home.
