07/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Lex Luthor is an old dog that finds himself alone. If you’re anything like me, that’s all that needs to be said. It already implies a sweetness that can only be attained with age, an admirable sense of trust and forgiveness in the face of vulnerability, and, of course, an irresistibly handsome frosted face! Lex is very quiet in his cage and often sleeping; though he walks slowly, he still seems happy to go out and about. He seems housebroken and still has a great appetite for treats. He is a far cry from his supervillian namesake: he seems very submissive and makes soft eye contact as I pet him. Lex Luthor is an old dog and like all the others, he deserves the softest of beds, a patient set of ears to listen to his war stories, and someone to love him. We hope soon he will no longer find himself alone…please come see him at Brooklyn ACC!
07/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lex Luthor came into the shelter as a stray on 7/16/16, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake Lex Luthor was described as lethargic; he allowed all handling to be done while maintaining a relaxed body posture. During SAFER Lex Luthor had a calm body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Lex Luthor was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Lex Luthor was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Lex Luthor appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash slow, body soft. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank Squeeze 2:1 Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: No interest.
07/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lex Luthor was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 7/21: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Lex Luthor greets and is initially indifferent to the other dog. Eventually he interacts with her, becoming sexually motivated but does not mount. He listens to handler interruptions and explores the pen.
