05/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m sorry, new human friend, were you saying something? I couldn’t hear you over the sound of this awesome tennis ball calling my name, and now that I actually have it in my mouth, I’m finding it kind of hard to focus on anything that isn’t an awesome tennis ball unless….is that an EVEN MORE AWESOME TENNIS BALL?!! Oh my gosh, it actually squeaks!!! Please throw it, pleasepleaseplease! What’s that? I have to sit first? No problemo, I know that command like the back of my paw. Wheeeee, awesome tennis ball fetch time! Uh, no I am not giving you my awesome tennis ball back but you can still pet me if you like or we can chase each other around, it’s all good so long as the ball stays with me. Oh okaaaay, if you throw another one I’ll drop this in return but don’t think I won’t be back for it! Please excuse me while I take a short bathroom break, I’m used to having these a few times a day so I’m a bit overdue…Whew! Feeling lighter now and ready for my photo shoot and with a name like Leroy (‘The King’) what else to dress my handsome self in but royal purple? Boy oh boy, I could play with my awesome tennis ball (and you too, of course!) all day but I guess it’s nap time now so when you’re ready for another match I’ll be waiting right here on my bed…resting quietly…just me…yawn!…and my awesome tennis ball…dreaming sweet dreams of home.
05/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Leroy pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Leroy did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash with stiff body language during tag interaction. He took the toys away with a soft body language. Leroy shows a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
05/10/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Leroy has typically only exhibited sexually motivated behaviors while in the care center. On one occasion he entered the pen and immediately jumped on one of the females, tense and vocalizing. He ceases this behavior quickly with handler intervention but may become frustrated when he is unable to mount and then, again, tense and vocalize. His owner did not cite any interactions with other dogs in his home, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends Leroy not go to a home with other dogs until his behaviors can be followed up on. When off leash with other dogs, Leroy is sexually motivated. He follows the female greeter, sniffing her rear, licking, and chattering. 5/12 update: Leroy displays sexually motivated behavior. He attempts so mount, and begins to vocalize and snap when the other dogs walk away. He becomes uncomfotable and begins to lip lick when approached face to face.
