06/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Leo previously lived with adults and has no experience with children. The owner stated when around strangers Leo is reactive; he will bark, lunge and show his teeth, and when around children he lunges, show teeth, chase and bark loudly. The owner mentioned Leo lived with another dog and was respectful and very playful and tolerant around cats. It was reported by the owner when Leo food bowls is touched he will growl and snap, and the same thing goes with treats or objects are being taken away. The owner also stated Leo will growl and snap when unfamiliar people approach the home. The owner describes Leo as playful, excitable and anxious. It was mentioned by the owner Leo is not house trained, has a high activity level and will growl and snap when someone disturbs his sleep. At intake it was reported Leo bark and lunged at the counselor, all handling was allowed with assistance from the owner. During SAFER Leo came into the assessment room tense and nervous, he was not interested with the assessor. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Leo bared his teeth at the assessor when approaching him. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: According to Leo’s previous owner, Leo lived with a dog age 4 and was respectful and very playful. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Leo is sexually motivated, occasionally mounting the female greeter dog while wandering in the pen.
