04/01/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/01/16 14:49 Basic Info: Leo A1069089 is a 9yr old neutered male tan & white Chihuahua who was adopted at an event 6yrs ago and is being surrendered due to the owner moving to where pets aren’t allowed. He was last seen by a veterinarian in 2014 and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers Leo is shy for a few minutes. He’s spent time with a 1yr old and was relaxed, playful with them & allowed them to pet him also the same with adults (more playful though), a cat and two small breed dogs. Leo hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Leo’s behaviors are unknown for the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved or being held/restrained. Leo will bark while hiding under a table if someone he doesn’t know comes over. He isn’t bothered with being brushed, bath time or having his nails trimmed. For A New Family To Know: Leo is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow & playful (at times) with a low-medium activity level. The owner likes how cute & smart he is and Leo enjoys playing with squeaky toys. When the owner is home he follows them around sometimes. He’s a mostly indoor only dog who’s walked 2x a day. He sleeps on a dog bed or with the owner and eats dry Pedigree food 2x a day. When left home alone Leo is well behaved and is house broken. His known command at times is “sit”. Intake Behavior: Leo was initially nervous and would pull away from me and or hide behind his owner. After a couple of minutes I was carrying him like a baby and he didn’t want to be placed on the ground. Leo allowed to be scanned (+), collared & taken pictures of. I then picked him up/held him and placed him into a kennel with ease. I had to return to his kennel to give him some food and when he saw me he had a super loose wiggly body and was play bowing.

04/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Leo was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth. The behavior team had to use a towel to safely remove him from his kennel. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks with a fearful body language. Leo is fearful of the shelter environment He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Leo doesn’t like to be handled and tries to hide under the chair or desk. The behavior team was unable to collar him. The behavior department feels that Leo is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. Leo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner around strangers Leo is shy for a few minutes. He’s spent time with a 1yr old and was relaxed, playful with them & allowed them to pet him also the same with adults (more playful though), a cat and two small breed dogs. Leo is described as friendly, affectionate, mellow & playful (at times) with a low-medium activity level. The owner likes how cute & smart he is and Leo enjoys playing with squeaky toys”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
