05/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lennox came to us as an owner surrender due to Lennox’s current health issues. According to the owner Lennox continuously urinates on himself when he is sleeping and whines all day. The owner reported that Lennox is friendly and gentle to all children and adults and loves to be petted. He used to be playful with other dogs but doesn’t play as much anymore due to his age though he does tolerate their presence. The owner stated that Lennox may growl when someone touches his food bowl or rawhide is taken from his mouth, but has never bitten anyone. Lennox was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room with very soft body language. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining very soft body language. He followed at the end of the leash during the tag interaction but did not engage in play. Lennox showed some concerning behavior during the tag item where he growled as the assessor attempted to take it from him with the assess-a-hand. When on an on-leash dog interaction Lennox approached the helper dog quickly with slightly tense body language and hackles raised. Due to Lennox’s possible potential for toy, food, and rawhide resources we recommend that Lennox go to a home with an experienced owner and no children. We also recommend teaching Lennox “Drop It” and trade-up games. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 4. Dog growls. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body confident, tail well above spine level, hackles raised, and ears back.
