02/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/04/16 20:26 Behavior during intake: Lazarus was very nervous during the intake process. I tried to give him treat but he just backed away and got closer to the owner. The owner was able to collar the dog, put a leash on and help with the photo. I did not use the admissions office because there was another dog in there that did not respond well to other dogs. Basic Info: Lazarus is a 3 year old neutered male pit bull and boxer mix. His former owner had him since he was a small puppy. The owner’s sister had a dog that had puppies and Lazarus was one of those puppies. Lazarus was born with one leg shorter than the rest and he also has a slightly deformed ear. His former owner brought him to MACC because they did not have anywhere for him to stay. Socialization: This dog is a bit nervous with new people. It takes him a fair amount of time to feel comfortable but he can warm up if he is shown the proper love and care! He might bark out of nervousness. Lazarus is coming from a home where children were present. The children range from ages 3 to 7 years. He was always pretty gentle with the kids and did pretty well with them. He did not really play with the kids. Lazarus has been around both small and big dogs. He is very playful and relaxed with dogs. He has never been around cats. Behavior History: Lazraus did bite his owner on the hand on 1/6/2016. They were playing with a rope toy and he bit down. The bite did break skin and the dog licked her hand almost right away. This guy is not bothered if his food bowl is touched while he is eating or if someone takes a treat from him. If someone takes a toy away he thinks it’s part of a game and he is playful. Lazarus will bark if a strangers that come into his yard. He is usually afraid of strangers and he barks at them. For a New Family to Know: His former owner’s describe Lazarus as playful, shy and fearful at times. He is a very active dog. This guy LOVES to run around in the dog park. He is used to a mix of wet and dry food. When it comes to treats he loves them all! Lazarus is only partially house trained. He does have accidents a few times a week but with the proper training he could be better. He knows how to “sit” and “stay” on command. He is used to slow walks on the leash and a good jog whenever it can happen.

02/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lazarus was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks calmly on leash. Lazarus was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. Lazarus doesn’t allow the handler to collar him, he stands tall, and tries to look large. He was giving warning signals such as freezing and growling. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Lazarus was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Lazarus was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Lazarus is a bit nervous with new people. Lazarus is not bothered if his food bowl is touched while he is eating or if someone takes a treat from him. If someone takes a toy away he thinks its part of a game and he is playful”. When the assessor tries to place him back in his kennel Lazarus turned quickly with a stiff body language and air snap at the assessor. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper: A1064264
02/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lazarus is uncomfortable in the care center and does not readily allow handling, so he was unable to be introduced to any dogs off leash. His owner reports that he has been around large and small dogs and is “relaxed and playful.” The behavior department recommends allowing Lazarus time to adjust to his new environment before introducing him to any resident dogs.
