09/02/17 15:21 Basic information: Lala is approximately 5 year old, Gray and White female. She has no known health issues or injuries, and has not seen a vet recently. Socialization: Lala has spent time with the owners Grandchildren on the weekends and is reportedly respectful and tolerant of them. She allows the children to pet her without any growling or aggressive behaviors. She has not lived with other dogs or cats previously. Behavior: Lala has no reported resource guarding behavior with owner or Grandson. She was described as being friendly and outgoing. The owners grandson has bathed her with little struggle, but has not groomed or clipped her nails. She walks on the leash well, but does bark and growl at cars. Owner is unsure if in her past before she owned the dog, lala suffered some type of traumatic experience with cars. For a New Family to know: Lala eats dry food and chicken, and has been an indoor dog. She is housetrained but has accidents if she is not let out in time. She knows the commands sit and come, and likes to be in the same room as her owner. Behavior during admission: Lala was hiding under the chair and deep, throaty growling at counselors. She was hard staring and growling if counselor looked at her.

Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit tense and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity:2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense with her mouth closed. Tag:1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1& 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Summary: Lala was a bit timid but becomes friendly towards the assessor with a slow approach. PLAYGROUP: According to Lala’s previous owner, Lala did not socialized with other dogs. When off leash at the Care Center, Lala is slightly stiff when greeting a novel male dog. She becomes anxious-seeking for an exit- and avoids the other dog the rest of her session. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 9/2/17: Upon intake Lala was under the chair growling at the counselors. She was staring with hard eyes and growling if the counselor looked at her. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/4/17: During his medical examination, Lala was submissive and on handling her anxiety escalates. She was muzzles for blood work and vaccines. ENERGY LEVEL: Lala displays a medium activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No young children (under 5): Due to the behavior seen in the care center, we feel that Lala may be intimidated by young children. She needs a slow approach and time to warm up. She should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at her own pace. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful: The behavior department recommends allowing Lala to approach her potential new adopters at her own pace. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Lala to new and unfamiliar situations.
