09/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A In-tact, Stray AGGRESSION ASSESSMENT: Lawerence has begun to show concerning behavior when being returned to his kennel. Yesterday he head whipped and snapped at a volunteer. Today a member of the behavior team was bringing him back inside from playgroup and Lawerence lunged, barked and snapped at every dog in their kennel. Although he walked into his kennel with no problem, he whipped around, lunged and snapped, catching the handler’s pant pocket. It appears to be redirection from the arousal he experienced. Due to these newly surfaced behaviors we feel that Lawerence should be adopted to an experienced dog owner. Additionaly, the Behavior Department is recommending that Lawerence be moved from the adoption room for safety reasons and request that placement be sought as soon as possible. AGRESSION ASSESSMENT 09/15/2016 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Lawerence displayed no concern during his assessment. PLAYGROUP: 09/14/16 Lawerence was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Lawerence displays loose and wiggly body language as he greets the female dog. He is sexually motivated, mounting the female dog, but is able to listen to handler interruptions and explores the pen. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 09/13/2016 Upon his initial medical examination, Lawerence tolerated all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Lawerence displays a medium level of activity and energy. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter only.
