07/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: When intake notes read, ” very affectionate, friendly, wiggly”, you have to know you’re meeting a terrific dog! And he is! Add to his adorable personality the best pouty underlip ever and the cutest chin whiskers that are even cuter than the chin whiskers on my Aunt Lotte and you have a winning combination! Quiet in his kennel Larry is easily leashed, steps out gently and off we go to go potty the moment we’re outside. His leash manners are lovely, his tail never stops wagging, and although he doesn’t look like he’s had the cushiest life, his gentlemanly good manners win him fans everywhere! Off leash Larry shows me his sit (with a bit of coaxing), sweeps a treat from my fingers so gently, greets a dog through the gate with a sweet tail wag and in his first playgroup greeted the helper dog politely. Larry loves to snuggle in close, giving kisses freely and sweetly. Although in need of a little TLC for his coat, his friendly, sweet and gentle personality already has staff singing his praises. Shouldn’t you add your voice to the chorus? I guarantee you’ll love this guy when you meet him, it’s simply impossible not to.
07/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Larry pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Larry followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag but at the end of the game he shows a low threshold for what appears to be sexual arousal and consistently tried to mount the Assessor and was very difficult to distract. He took the toy away with a soft body language. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, dog shows a low threshold for what appears to be sexual arousal and consistently tried to mount the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: When off leash with other dogs, Larry greets politely. He attempts to mount, however responds well when corrected by the greeter female.
07/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Larry has offered polite greeting to female dogs, and at times is sexually motivated (he is unaltered). He has not been introduced to a male dog while in our care. The behavior team feels that Larry should require a pre-adoption interactiona and thorough, slow introductions to ensure compatability with resident dogs. He arrived into our care as a stray, so it is unknown how his behaviors will translate into a home with dogs. 7/3: When off leash with other dogs, Larry greets politely. He attempts to mount, however responds well when corrected by the greeter female. 7/5: Larry is a bit sexually motivated, but loses interest and roams. 7/6: Larry appears a bit sexually motivated, however is polite when approaching and sniffing. 7/7: Larry continues to display this behavior. 7/8 update: Larry engages in some brief play when solicited but is more interested in mounting. 7/9 update: Larry is sexually motivated and does not engage in play when solicited. 7/11: Larry greets politely. He is sexually motivated, however briefly backs up with correction. 7/12: Larry greets politely, then roams.
