05/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lanai came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Lanai was friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Lanai came into the assessment room anxious and panting, she was friendly towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Lanai was easily aroused, and slowly de-escalates during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Lanai was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Lanai has high energy and lunges at the assessor but take corrections well. When Lanai becomes aroused she is slow to de-escalate and sometimes requires intervention to help redirect her to more appropriate behaviors. Lanai hard barks, her teeth chatter, and she begins to run along the fence when greeting the other dog through the gate. An attempt was made to muzzle her, but due to her stress level it was decided not to push her. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children and we recommend and thorough dog to dog interaction before being place into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog gets easily aroused, anxious and slow de-escalates. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Lanai hard barks, her teeth chatter, and she begins to run along the fence when greeting the other dog through the gate. An attempt was made to muzzle her, but due to her stress level it was decided not to push her. Due to these behaviors, the session was ended and she was not allowed in the pen today. 5/5 update: Since Lanai arrived at the Care Center she has exhibited concerning high-arousal behavior; jumping up incessantly, lunging, biting kennel bars and spinning. She is also difficult to leash and has started to bite hard at the leash making it difficult to remove her from kennel. The Behavior Department feels that due to concerns for Lanai’s well-being and the safety of staff, placement should be sought as soon as possible.
05/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Lanai came in as a stray so her behavior around other dogs is unknown. When we were retrieving Lanai from her kennel she was extremely aroused- bouncing, jumping, slamming her body against the kennel door and biting at the bars. She was eventually brought out to play group and continued to be extremely aroused. She rushed the gate to greet the helper dog, slamming her face against the fence, then barked, lunged and snapped through the gap in the fence. Due to this behavior, we attempted to muzzle Lanai but she was so aroused and panicked that we decided to give her another day to acclimate and try her again. 5/4: Lanai hard barks, her teeth chatter, and she begins to run along the fence when greeting the other dog through the gate. An attempt was made to muzzle her, but due to her stress level it was decided not to push her. Due to these behaviors, the session was ended and she was not allowed in the pen today.
