11/11/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/11/16 13:16 Basic information: Lady Lu is a 1 year old American Pit bull Terrier. She was surrendered because her previous owner moved and isn’t allowed to have pets in her new apartment. She has no known injuries or health problems but has not been to the vet. Socialization: Around strangers Lady is shy for a few minutes and when she played with adults she is exuberant. She lived with children ages 2 and 3 and spent time with a 5 months old. When she played she was exuberant. With other dogs she is respectful but did not play. Behavior: Lady has never attempted to bite a person or animal. She is fearful of loud noises and hides. If her food bowl or treat was touched she growled. She cries if a toy is taken from her. She isn’t bothered if she is taken off furniture. She’s friendly when held or restrained. She isn’t bothered if disturbed while sleeping or given a bath. She’s friendly if her coat is brushed. She isn’t bothered if her nails are trimmed or if an unfamiliar person approached her home or previous owner. For a New Family to Know: Lady is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and excitable with a medium to high activity level. The two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she is happy and well behaved. When her previous owner was home she would tend to follow her around. She likes to play with stuffed toys and ropes and her favorite games are fetch and tug. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept on her previous owner’s bed. She ate both wet and dry Pedigree. She is house trained and rarely had accidents indoors. She is well behaved when left alone indoors. She knows the cues sit, come, and stay. She was taken on walks 3 to 4 times daily and on leash she pulls lightly. Behavior during intake: Lady growled when I approached while her previous owner was around. She was collared by her owner. She allowed me to take her pictures and pet her once her previous owner left. She growled, showed whale eye and crouched down when approached by another person.

11/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults/children (ages 2 and 3) Behavior toward children: Plays exuberantly Behavior toward dogs: Respectful, does not play Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: Will growl if food bowl or treats are touched Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Friendly, affectionate, playful, shy, and excitable with a medium to high activity level. Other notes: Upon intake Lady Lu growled when approached. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/13/2016 Toy: 4. Dog freezes and low growls Summary: Due to the fearful/defensive behavior displayed during her stay at the care centers, Lady Lu is not an appropriate candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time; placement with a New Hope Rescue partner may benefit her best at this time. PLAYGROUP: 11/11: Lady Lu exhibits defensive behaviors when greeting a social male through a barrier–growling/baring teeth but backing away and avoiding eye contact with him. When she is introduced she runs away from him and will lip curl when he approaches her face. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/11/16 During her initial medical exam Lady Lu appeared tense and nervous and was growling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Recommend no dog parks (See Playgroup notes) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Lady Lu has attempted to snap multiple times during her stay at our care centers, for this reason, we believe Lady Lu would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Lady Lu has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during her stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling; any form of direct touch may result in a fearful bite. It is recommended that Lady Lu be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Lady Lu to new and unfamiliar situations.) _X_Resource guarding (We cannot be certain whether any guarding or possessive behavior may appear in a home environment, but we recommend adopters comfortable with safe management and modification of guarding behavior in case it does.)
11/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
11/11: Lady Lu exhibits defensive behaviors when greeting a social male through a barrier–growling/baring teeth but backing away and avoiding eye contact with him. When she is introduced she runs away from him and will lip curl when he approaches her face. The behavior department recommends allowing Lady Lu time to decompress in a new environment before following up on her behavior around other dogs. Previous owner does describe Lady Lu as “respectful” around other dogs.
