She had a loose body and allowed to be pet, collared, and photographed without behavior concerns. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/5/16 Lady bird was nervous tail tucked, submissive; allowed all handling other than nail trim. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Lady bird so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. Lady bird displayed low energy and movement throughout assessment. Lady bird will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the (behaviors outlined below). _X_ No young children (under 5)- Due to potential Toy guarding behavior. With the assessor, Lady bird gave an appropriate warning of her discomfort (stiff) takes toy away, but we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Lady bird can be left alone while playing with her toys so she does not need to escalate to a growl. Behavior modification for food guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org.
Potential challenges: _X_ Resource guarding- Lady bird is reported to become stiff and take away her toys. She should be left alone while playing, and should be taught the cue “drop” and other trade up games so Lady bird learns that dropping toys or having people around while she is playing is rewarding. Behavior modification protocols for toy guarding behavior can be found on aspcapro.org
