PROFILE:
Lady was brought in as an owner’s surrender. Owner has had Lady since she was just six months old after purchasing her from a breeder. Owner says Lady does not have any injuries or health concerns.
SOCIALIZATION AND BEHAVIOR
Lady is described as being shy with new people, and needs to meet them a few times before becoming comfortable. She lives with a 3-year old and is said to be friendly and comfortable with the child. When seeing children outside Lady becomes uncomfortable if they are being too active near her, owner says she’ll growl and sometimes lunge. Lady is said to be tolerant towards other dogs, as long as they do not become aggressive towards her. Owner says there have been no past issues of Lady biting anyone or another animal. Lady is relaxed if food is touched while eating, owner says she’ll just follow the food. She is friendly when owner removes things form her mouth and if toys are touched. Owner says one time when she had a very large bone she would not allow anyone to touch it. He is unsure if she would’ve become aggressive, but says she would run towards anyone touching it. Lady is trained not to get onto furniture, and loves taking baths and getting in the water. Owner says she is friendly when someone unfamiliar approaches the home, but protective if out and someone approaches her owner. He says she’ll growl and sometimes attempt to lunge at them.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW:
Lady is described as affectionate, confident, and mellow with a low-mid activity level. When home she is normally in her favorite spots, and enjoys all types of toys. She is taken outside twice a day, and normally fed Pedigree dry food. Lady is house-trained using the bathroom outside as well as with pads, and owner says she never has accidents. When home alone she is behaved, and owner says she is crate-trained and does well with it. Lady understands commands sit, stay, stop, and out. She only pulls on leash when objects stimulate her, and off leash she’ll wander but returns.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE:
Lady was somewhat skittish, but still social during intake. She immediately accepted treats from counselor hand, but backed away from petting. After some treats, ad becoming comfortable she did allow petting. Lady became uncomfortable with collaring, and constantly stepped away and avoided. I was unable to collar Lady, but she showed no signs of aggression during intake.
SAFER:
Lady pulls a bit on the leash. She fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler. During the look Lady raised her lips she was panting and licking their mouth repeatedly she was crouching, slinking, flinching instead of standing up in their normal manner. The behavior department decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Lady was not interested in toys.
